The driver's side door after removal from the car. |
 |
The door from the other side. |
 |
All the material is stripped from the inside of the door to
reveal the window mechanism. |
 |
The detail of the small window shows some damage. We think
it may have been forced open as someone tried to break into the car. |
 |
The canvas and covering has been removed from the door to
reveal the window mechanisms. |
 |
The larger window frame has been removed, along with the
window which has to be eased out from the mechanism carefully or the
window will shatter, as we found to our expense with the passenger door! |
 |
With all the locking mechanisms and windows removed work on
the actual door repair can begin. |
 |
This photo shows the door metal panels - the actual door
outside surface is aluminium so has little corrosion, but the steel inside
structure is quite badly rusted, so the bottom edge needs to be
replaced. |
 |
Here the replacement panel is put in place so the section of
the door can be marked for removal. |
 |
After much hacking, sawing, cutting and grinding, most of
the corroded steel had been cut away. The edges need to be tidied up
before the new panel can be fitted. To do this a number of spot welds have
to be removed with a special drill bit. |
