Passenger's Side

The last few months have mainly been spent repairing the driver's side body work. You can see above the replaced body panels and the door posts placed roughly in position. The front wheel arches were cleaned of underseal with a heat gun and lots of patience.

To accommodate all the old cars we seem to be accumulating, our drive was due to be resurfaced. This meant the old MGA which had been sitting outside for about 8 months would finally be moved into the garage.

With no specialist equipment to move the car we just put the wheels back on and pushed it in. Although it's never as simple as that because months of English climate had taken its toll and rusted one of the brake disks. So we had to jack up the front and pull it round. In the end we gave up and used brute force to push it in!

Pushing the car into across the drive. Finally made it! Our MGA looking much happier inside!

Once inside, it was on with the work on the body. The front valence panel has now been replaced. (and levelled!) giving essential shape and support to the front wheel arches. You can see the old one on the floor looking slightly worse for wear.

The photos below show work being done on the front wheel  arch. Care was taken to get the correct shape, which can be worked out from the valence panel and the wing panels themselves. Old rusty metal was cut away and a new piece made and welded into place using a row of tabs to give the edge.
The other photos (right) show the work so far on the passenger's side body panels. It is coming on slowly but there is a huge difference in the strength and look of the body.
